The Christian Holy Day of Atonement- By Command from God Our Father

The Day of Atonement is a Holy Day (a “Sabbath“) sanctified BY GOD. The same God that is “The Father” of Jesus Christ. This fact makes Him The Father to all who follow Christ “IN sincerity AND Truth“.

[ Please Note: The proof in Scriptures that is presented below applies (and is found) as proof for the keeping of EACH individual “Sabbath” of The LORD God by His Children that are IN CHRIST… For this reason it can be found repeated in each of the study-helps concerning the specific Holy Day being discussed. It is a foundational doctrine that Christ Jesus teaches to follow for all His Body (Church) members… For a detailed study on God’s Love being Obedience to HIS Commandments (Sabbaths and Law), see: “Christianity According To God.doc”]

As “beloved children” of God (achieving this through the baptism in the Name of Christ Jesus), one is commanded and taught BY GOD and Christ TO OBEY God, The Father:

Luke 10:25-28 (KJV)
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, WHAT SHALL I DO TO INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE?
[26] He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
[27] And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
[28] And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: THIS DO, and thou shalt live.

Matthew 5:17-20 (KJV)
THINK NOT that I am come to destroy THE LAW, or the prophets: I AM NOT COME TO DESTROY, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, ONE JOT OR ONE TITTLE SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, till all be fulfilled.
[19] WHOSOEVER therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: BUT whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
[20] For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

The LORD (literally- “JeHoVaH“) God of Israel- IS “The Father” of Jesus Christ- Jesus told the Jews this very thing:

John 8:54 (NASB)
Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is MY FATHER Who glorifies Me, OF WHOM YOU SAY, ‘He is our God’;

As Jesus says, The Jews (as they do to this day) referred to Jesus’ Father throughout The Old Testament sacred writings as “Jehovah”- [King James Version: “The LORD”]
-one example:
Psalm 95:6-7 (KJV)
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before The LORD our maker. [7] FOR HE IS OUR GOD; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, [8] Harden not your heart…

“…it is MY FATHER who glorifies Me, OF WHOM YOU SAY, ‘He is our God’;
Yet ye have not known him; BUT I KNOW HIM: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: BUT I know him, AND KEEP HIS SAYING.”

The Apostles of The Lord Jesus (Lord of Christianity) taught exactly what Jesus taught here to the Jews…

They taught that in order for us to “know God” (in order for us to be able to say “I know God”, or “I love God”) WE MUSTKEEPHIS Commandments

John, the apostle of Jesus writes:
1 John 2:3-6 (NASB)
And BY THIS we know that we have come to know Him, IF we KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. [4] The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; [5] but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: [6] the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

Paul (Jesus’ Apostle to The Gentiles) writes the same instruction. He puts it in this way to the Gentile Believers in Christ:
Romans 13:8-10 (KJV)
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. [9] For this,
Thou shalt not commit adultery,
Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal,
Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Thou shalt not covet;
AND IF there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[10] Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.

Note that love of our neighbor (“owe no man…“) “IS the fulfilling of” God’s Commandments toward our neighbor… Paul has just defined ‘love of neighbor‘ as obedience of God’s Law toward your neighbor.

To this point the apostle John agreed, and wrote to The Church, as well… John points out that as it works with “love” toward our ‘neighbor’, so it also works in the same way for defining our “love” TOWARD GOD… He teaches us that ‘Christian Love of God’ IS defined by the keeping (practice) of God’s commandments toward Him:
1 John 5:2-4 (NASB)
BY THIS we know that we love the children of God, WHEN WE LOVE GOD AND OBSERVE HIS COMMANDMENTS.
[3] For THIS IS THE LOVE OF GOD, THAT WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS; and His commandments are not burdensome.
[4] For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world– our faith.

Christ Jesus was the Child of God (“Son” of God)- just as all who are IN Christ are “children” of God…So, BY Loving God (Keeping HIS Commandments), we KNOW that we “Love” the children of God (we have fulfilled the proof of “love”) …

The Apostle Paul points out that, IF we are abiding in Jesus’ “Love”, that we will be “practicing” the things in our life that have NO Law of God speaking against it… The Law spoke of “Thou shalt NOT…“, against which there is No such Law for anything that has to do with The Love that is according to Jesus’ Ways:
Galatians 5:18-25 (KJV)
…But IF ye be led of the Spirit , ye are not under the law.

What does Paul mean here?
He explains it all clearly in his next words:

[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
:21 (NASB)
…that those who PRACTICE such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit IS LOVE, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, GOODNESS, FAITH, [23] Meekness, TEMPERANCE: AGAINST SUCH THERE IS NO LAW.

“IF ye be LED OF THE Spirit, ye are NOT UNDER THE LAW”

Paul has just shown us that, “the works of the flesh” are everything that The Law of God preaches “AGAINST” (“thou shalt NOT” do these things, God said to Israel).

Paul then points out that, “THE FRUIT of The Spirit is love“.

Well then- when we know the defining aspect of “love“-
1 John 5:3 (NASB)
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

-it is THEN that we can understand that “The Fruit of The Spirit” is Obedience To (- or the Keeping of, – or the practicing of) The Commandments of God

This same “Fruit of The Spirit” (which is being found to be Obedient to- or practicing- The Commandments of God) IS ‘The Proof’ that we are “Christian”:
John 15:8 (NASB)
“By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and SO PROVE to be My disciples.

Paul discusses this same message with another Church of ‘Gentile’ Believers… He writes about STOPPING (repenting from) the way that practices “The Works (fruits) of The Flesh“, AND beginning a lifestyle of PRACTICING “The Love of God” that is found in the way of life for Christ’s followers (these “fruits“- or “deeds“- of The Spirit) …

NOTE: “The Fruit of The Spirit” is the proof of our “Love of God”…

Notice how that all of the listed “ Fruits of The Spirit” (these works that result from The Spirit of Jesus Christ in the follower)- all of these “fruits” (-or “deeds”) match aspect for aspect what Paul lists as a description of “Love” at works in us:

1 Cor. 13:4-7 (NASB)
Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, [5] does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, [6] does NOT REJOICE in UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, but rejoices with The TRUTH; [7] BEARS all things, BELIEVES all things, HOPES all things, ENDURES all things.

So, again- “The Fruit of The Spirit” is one and the same as “Love“.
:

Again, we see Paul taught that the deeds of the flesh were to be stopped- to repent from the practicing of these things in our way of every-day-living:

Col. 3:5-8 (KJV)
MORTIFY therefore your members WHICH ARE UPON THE EARTH; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, AND covetousness, which is idolatry:
[6] For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE: [7] In the which ye also walked some time, WHEN ye lived in them.

1 John 3:7-8 (NASB)
Little children, let no one deceive you; the one who PRACTICES RIGHTEOUSNESS is righteous, just as He is righteous; [8] the one who PRACTICES SIN is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

[8] But NOW ye also PUT OFF ALL THESE;

Matthew 4:17 (NASB)
From that time JESUS began to preach AND say, “REPENT, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Acts 2:38 (NASB)
And Peter said to them, “REPENT, AND let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ FOR the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 3:8 (NASB)
“Therefore BRING FORTH FRUITS in keeping with repentance……”

[8] But NOW ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Acts 26:20 (NASB)
……but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent AND turn to God, PERFORMING DEEDS appropriate to repentance.

Romans 6:15 (NASB)
What then?
Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? MAY IT NEVER BE!
[16] Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one WHOM YOU OBEY, EITHER of sin resulting in death, OR of obedience resulting in righteousness?
[17] But thanks be to God that though YOU WERE slaves of sin, YOU BECAME OBEDIENT from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, [18] and having been freed from sin, YOU BECAME slaves of righteousness.

Galatians 5:[22] But THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE……

1 John 5:3 (NASB)
For THIS is the love of God, THAT WE KEEP His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, GOODNESS, FAITH,
[23] Meekness, TEMPERANCE: AGAINST SUCH THERE IS NO LAW.

1 Tim. 1:8-11 (NASB)
…But we know that The Law is good, IF one uses it lawfully, [9] realizing the fact that LAW IS NOT MADE FOR A RIGHTEOUS man,

“IF ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law”… The Law (Commandments that stand ‘against’ the flesh) has no power over the person who has repented of Sin, and is now ‘practicing’ God’s Commandments through Jesus Christ. The Law says nothing against a lifestyle of Obedience (remember, sins are forgiven when repented of, under Grace)… Christ’s blood cleanses from any stumbling in the attempt to practice God’s Commandments (The Love of God) in day-to-day living…

Col. 2:11 (KJV)
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, IN PUTTING OFF THE BODY OF THE SINS OF THE FLESH by the circumcision of Christ:

Col. 3:1-10 (KJV)
IF ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. [3] For YE ARE DEAD, and your life is hid with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

2 Cor. 5:16 (NASB)
Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh

[5] Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: [6] For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: [7] In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. [8] But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. [9] Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; [10] And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

So, Paul shows us that The Law was not handed down for the righteous, but for the one who is practicing (or doing) sin in their life… The Law is God’s guide to repentance unto Grace, as Paul has said:
Galatians 3:24 (KJV)
Wherefore The Law was our schoolmaster unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

1 Tim. 1:8-11 (NASB) …But we know that The Law is good, IF one uses it lawfully, [9] realizing the fact that LAW IS NOT MADE FOR A RIGHTEOUS man, BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE LAWLESS and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane…

Exodus 20:3-11 (NASB)
“YOU SHALL HAVE NO other gods before Me.

“YOU SHALL NOT make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. [5] “YOU SHALL NOT worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, [6] but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

[7] “YOU SHALL NOT take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

[8] “REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, to keep it holy. [9] “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, [10] but THE SEVENTH DAY IS A SABBATH OF THE LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. [11] “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

1 Tim. 1:8-11 (NASB) …FOR THOSE WHO kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers [10] AND immoral men AND homosexuals AND kidnappers AND liars AND perjurers…
Exodus 20:12-17 (KJV)
HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

[13] THOU SHALT NOT kill.

[14] THOU SHALT NOT commit adultery.

[15] THOU SHALT NOT steal.

[16] THOU SHALT NOT bear false witness against thy neighbour.

[17] THOU SHALT NOT covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
.

We are shown by Paul that The Holy Law of God (“The Ten Commandments” and all other such related COMMANDMENTS of God), none of these Laws have anything to say against “the fruit of The Spirit” which is “love”…
Paul goes on to point out that The Law of God agrees with every teaching found in The Glorious Gospel of God, which he says he preaches to the gentiles…

“AND WHATEVER ELSE IS CONTRARY TO SOUND TEACHING, [11] according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. “

Galatians 5:18-25 (NASB)
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. [19] Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, [20] idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, [21] envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. [24] Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
[24] AND they that are Christ’s HAVE CRUCIFIED THE FLESH with the affections AND lusts.
[25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also WALK IN The Spirit.

– “IF ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law…”

– “But THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE……”

– “For THIS is the love of God, THAT WE KEEP His commandments”

Jesus HAS the TRUE Christian “Love of God”- He had this love for God (His Father), AND He had this love for us (His neighbor)…

THIS is why He was able to truthfully say:
John 8:55 (KJV)
…but I KNOW HIM, AND KEEP HIS SAYING.

“The Truth” that God teaches us throughout His Word (“The Bible”) is what clearly shows that God’s definition of ‘Christian’ is a person “WHO KEEPS” (- who “observes” and “practices”) HIS COMMANDMENTS toward Him AND toward the neighbor, WHILE at the same time holding to The Faith in Jesus (The Messiah that God Himself has sent) as ‘the sin sacrifice’ (The “Grace” coming through forgiveness of sins BY a true repentance from Sin)…

Rev. 12:17 (KJV)
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

And again,

Rev. 14:12 (KJV)
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, AND the faith of Jesus.

“The faith” in “The Testimony of Jesus” is simple to understand:
1 John 5:3-13 (NASB)
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. [4] For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world– our faith. [5] And who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? [6] This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood.
[7] And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because THE SPIRIT IS THE TRUTH.
[8] For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. [9] If we receive the witness of men, THE WITNESS OF GOD IS GREATER; for the witness of God IS THIS, that He has borne witness concerning His Son. [10] The one who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness that God has borne concerning His Son.
[11] And THE WITNESS IS THIS, THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US ETERNAL LIFE, AND THIS LIFE IS IN HIS SON. [12] He who HAS the Son HAS the life; he who DOES NOT have the Son of God DOES NOT have the life.
[13] These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.

It is NOT those that merely “believe” in Jesus Christ that are the ones “who hold to The Testimony of Jesus”-BUT, it is as the apostle John wrote, “the one who says he abides in Him OUGHT HIMSELF TO WALK IN THE SAME MANNER AS HE WALKED” – 1 John 2:6

And Paul writes,

Ephes. 4:17-20 (KJV)
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, THAT YE HENCEFORTH WALK NOT AS OTHER GENTILES WALK, in the vanity of their mind,
[18] Having the understanding darkened, being ALIENATED FROM the life of God THROUGH the ignorance that is in them, BECAUSE OF the blindness of their heart…
Matthew 13:15 (NASB)
For the heart of this people has become dull,
And with THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR,
And THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES LEST THEY SHOULD SEE with THEIR EYES……
Psalm 81:11 (KJV)
But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
Proverbs 1:30 (KJV)
They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

Zech. 7:11 (KJV)
But THEY refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

Acts 7:57-59 (NASB)
……But they cried out with a loud voice, AND COVERED THEIR EARS, and they rushed upon him WITH ONE IMPULSE. [58] And when they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him, and the witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul. [59] And they went on stoning Stephen as he called upon the Lord and said, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”

And THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES LEST THEY SHOULD SEE with THEIR EYES, And hear with THEIR EARS, And understand with THEIR HEART AND RETURN, And I should heal them.’

[19] Who being past feeling HAVE GIVEN THEMSELVES OVER UNTO LASCIVIOUSNESS, TO WORK ALL UNCLEANNESS with greediness.
[20] But YE HAVE NOT SO LEARNED CHRIST; [21] IF so be that ye have HEARD HIM, and have been taught BY HIM, as THE TRUTH IS IN JESUS: [22] THAT YE PUT OFF concerning THE FORMER conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

(NASB)
…that, in reference to your FORMER manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit…

[23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; [24] And THAT YE PUT ON THE NEW MAN, which after God is created IN RIGHTEOUSNESS and TRUE HOLINESS.
[25] Wherefore PUTTING AWAY LYING, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Notice- “PUT AWAY” lying…speak Truth… TURN (“Repent”) from ‘evil’, and TURN TOWARD AND DO what is ‘good’:

Psalm 34:12-16 (KJV)
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? [13] Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
[14] DEPART FROM EVIL, AND DO GOOD; seek peace, and pursue it.
Acts 2:38 (NASB)
And Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

[15] The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. [16] The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Back to Ephesians 4 again:
“…[26] Be ye angry, AND SIN NOT…”

1 John 3:4 (KJV)
…sin is the transgression of the law.

…let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
[27] NEITHER GIVE PLACE to the devil.
– (NASB) …and do not give the devil an opportunity.

[28] Let him that stole STEAL NO MORE:
Exodus 20:15 (KJV)
“Thou shalt not steal”

Romans 13:9 (KJV)
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, THOU SHALT NOT STEAL, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; AND IF THERE BE ANY OTHER COMMANDMENT, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[10] LOVE WORKETH NO ILL to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

[28] Let him that stole STEAL NO MORE: BUT RATHER LET HIM labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Example after example given by Paul here of TRUE “REPENTANCE’ at work in a person’s lifestyle…

The true Christian Way (Way of Jesus Christ) is taught to us as STOPPING the practice of SIN…
1 John 3:8 (NASB)
…the one WHO PRACTICES SIN is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL.

Stopping the practice of SIN in our lives, AND TURNING TO “DO” (“Practice”) “His Commandments” in your life-WHILE holding to “The faith of Jesus Christ” as the cure for the sentence of Death when you do sin (“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus…”- Romans 3:23-24)…

[Ephes. 4]- “…[29] Let NO CORRUPT COMMUNICATION PROCEED OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, BUT that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

Again- put off the sin, and replace it with what God says is right.

1 John 2:29 (NASB)
If you know that He is righteous, you know that EVERYONE also WHO PRACTICES RIGHTEOUSNESS is born of Him.

The Children of God PRACTICE God’s Righteousness in their lives- not their own ideas and ways…

ANYTHING that goes against (does not follow or adhere to) The Truth of God is “a lie”- which is “sin”:
1 John 3:4 (KJV)
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.
(NASB)
Everyone who PRACTICES SIN also PRACTICES LAWLESSNESS; and SIN IS LAWLESSNESS.

God shows us that no one “who practices Sin”, or follows (“practices”) a lie, will be accepted into His Kingdom:
Rev. 21:23-27 (NASB)
And THE CITY has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. [24] And the nations shall walk by its light, and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory into it. [25] And in the daytime (for there shall be no night there) its gates shall never be closed; [26] and they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; [27] AND NOTHING UNCLEAN and NO ONE WHO PRACTICES ABOMINATION AND LYING, SHALL EVER COME INTO IT, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

The Atoning work of The Lamb of God (Jesus Christ) only comes THROUGH A PERSON’S WILLINGNESS TO “REPENT”

“REPENTANCE” is the act of REVERSING SIN and bringing about THE PRACTICE OF OBEDIENCE TO THE FATHER in a person’s life… The Practice of Obedience to The Commandments of God (The Ten Commandments/The Law of God) is defined in The Bible (1 John 5:2-3 and Rom. 13:8-12) as “Love” (and are shown to be the proof of the Love that is in the person for God).

Romans 7:14 (NASB)
For we know that THE LAW IS SPIRITUAL; but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.

John 4:23-24 (NASB)
“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. [24] “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH.”

Matthew 24:35 (NASB)
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but MY WORDS SHALL NOT PASS AWAY.

1 Tim. 1:8 (NASB)
But we know that THE LAW IS GOOD, IF one uses it lawfully,

“The Ten Commandments” (written by the finger of The LORD God, The Father of Jesus and His ‘Christians’) INCLUDE “The SEVENTH DAY” Sabbath Day (“Saturday”… The “Seventh Day” on both Gregorian and Jewish calendars)…
The Seventh Day Sabbath is the Fourth Commandment in the Ten Commandments, and YET, It the most FORGOTTEN and ANNULLED of all The Commandments of The Father…

“Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:19 (NASB)

These teachings are not the ‘Judaizing’ of Christianity, as many false-churches today proclaim in their zeal to be “free”- BUT rather, THESE teachings ARE the teachings of “The True Circumcision”, as Paul calls the true Church of Jesus Christ… It IS the teaching that one must be of OBEDIENCE TO Christ Jesus, The Lord AND DEFINER of the word “Christianity”.
This is the true teaching of The Lord, and His Apostles:

Jesus:
John 14:15 (NASB)
“IF you love Me, YOU WILL keep My commandments.

And again,
John 14:21 (KJV)
He that hath my commandments, AND KEEPETH THEM, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

And here is John:
1 John 5:3 (KJV)
For THIS IS THE LOVE OF GOD, THAT WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: and his commandments are not grievous.

And here is Paul:
” For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [10] Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” – Romans 13:9-10 (KJV)

And Paul again,
” I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)

And here is Peter:
” Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. [14] As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, [15] but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; [16] because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” [17] And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay upon earth; [18] knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, [19] but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.” – 1 Peter 1:13-19 (NASB)

The Commandments of The LORD God of Israel (Jesus Christ’s Father)

( The Christian Day of “ATONEMENT” )

Leviticus 23:26-32 (KJV)
And The LORD spake unto Moses, saying, [27] Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be A DAY OF ATONEMENT: IT shall be an holy convocation unto you;

Convocation: Strong’s Help
miqra’, Hebrew 4744, mik-raw’; from Hebrew 7121 (qara’); something called out, i.e. a public meeting (the act, the persons, or the place); also a rehearsal :- assembly, calling, convocation, reading.

Convocation means a Holy Gathering for Reading of God’s Word…A Church (congregational) Service.

AND YE SHALL AFFLICT YOUR SOULS, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.
[28] AND ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God.
[29] For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. [30] And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.
[31] Ye shall do NO MANNER OF WORK: IT SHALL BE A STATUTE FOR EVER THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS in all your dwellings.
[32] It shall be unto you A SABBATH OF REST……
Exodus 31:13-15 (KJV)
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily MY SABBATHS YE SHALL KEEP: FOR IT is a sign between me and you throughout your generations;
Col. 2:16-17 (KJV)
…Let NO MAN therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
[17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body of Christ.

FOR IT is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; THAT YE MAY KNOW that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.
[14] Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for IT is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. [15] Six days may work be done; but in THE SEVENTH is The Sabbath of rest, holy to The LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

……[32] It shall be unto you A SABBATH OF REST, AND ye shall afflict your souls:

IN the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath. .

The Day of Atonement- also referred to as “The Day” (“Yom Kippur”)- IS one of God’s holy “Sabbaths”…

This “Day of Atonement” (as The Father of Christ calls it) IS BY “Commandment” from God…
The same God that was this “Father”, about Whom Jesus Christ our Lord says that He kept (observed, practiced) all of HIS sayings.

The Bible distinctly tells us that Jesus NEVER “Sinned”. He kept God’s Law perfectly.
Jesus Christ (Joshua Messiah) was the perfect man demanded of The Law, the man that could never have existed without a miracle from God Himself:
Philip. 2:5-9 (NASB)
…Christ Jesus, [6] WHO, although He existed IN THE FORM OF God,
John 1:1-2 (NASB)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was in the beginning with God.

…did not regard EQUALITY WITH GOD a thing to be grasped,
[7] BUT EMPTIED HIMSELF,
John 1:14 (NASB)
And THE WORD BECAME FLESH, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of THE ONLY BEGOTTEN from the Father, full of grace and truth.

…taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. [8] And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. [9] Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

NOW– with all of this Truth revealed– notice what Paul instructs the gentile Christians TO DO-
1 Cor. 5:7-8 (NASB)
Clean out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ OUR PASSOVER also has been sacrificed.
[8] LET US THEREFORE CELEBRATE THE FEAST, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Remember, these people were NOT “Jews” before coming to Christ…The had been people from every nation and race who came to “believe” [according to God’s definition of “believing”]:
1 Cor. 12:1-2 (NASB)
Now concerning spiritual gifts, BRETHREN, I do not want you to be unaware. [2] You know that WHEN YOU WERE PAGANS, you were led astray to the dumb idols, however you were led.

Again, we are not “Judaizing” Christianity- rather we are invoking the instruction of OBEDIENCE IN THE SAME WAY as Christ was obedient TO THE FATHER, which God defines as “Love of God”:
Ephes. 5:1 (KJV)
BE YE therefore IMMITATORS OF GOD, as dear children…

As noted above- Atonement (being “an holyday”- kjv) is a symbolic day given (sanctified/made holy) by God Himself in His holy Law:
2:16-17 (KJV)
…Let NO MAN therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: [17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body of Christ.

A ‘symbolic’ (a signal) Day-
Atonement- according to The Law (“The Law prophesied…” – Jesus’ words)- looked ahead toward Redemption through the Forgiveness that would be granted in the Blood Sacrifice of The Messiah (Christ) that God Himself would appoint for ALL mankind…Something that would come to ANYONE who “Repented” from sin, and “turned to God” through this Messiah provided)…
Isaiah 53:10 (KJV)
Yet it pleased The LORD to bruise him; He hath put him to grief: when thou shalt MAKE HIS SOUL AN OFFERING FOR SIN, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

Romans 5:11 (KJV)
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom WE HAVE NOW RECEIVED THE ATONEMENT.

Atonement is still to this day (while “under grace”) ‘a sign’ to the people of God (The Church of Jesus), as Paul himself noted- “…[17] Which are a shadow of things to come…”. It is not just a symbol that we rely on God for GRACE (forgiveness of sins)- but now stands as a testimony to the faith that we have placed in The Grace of God – Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Old Testimony:
The Old Testament gives a testimony (a record, witness) of The Day of Atonement, AND testified to us WHAT observing it would work FOR ALL WHO TRUST IN The LORD God of Israel (The Father of Jesus Christ) in the end…
Leviticus 16:1-34 (KJV)
And the Lord spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the Lord, and died; [2] And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. [3] Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering. [4] He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on. [5] And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. [6] And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house. [7] And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. [8] And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. [9] And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord’s lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. [10] But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness. [11] And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself: [12] And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: [13] And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not: [14] And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.
[15] Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat: [16] And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness. [17] And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel. [18] And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about. [19] And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
[20] And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: [21] And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness: [22] And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. [23] And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there: [24] And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people. [25] And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar. [26] And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp. [27] And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung. [28] And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
[29] And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: [30] For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord. [31] It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. [32] And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest’s office in his father’s stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments: [33] And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. [34] And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Again, let’s remember that the “Day of Atonement” is A “Holy Day” that is “sanctified” as a day for ALL Israel to keep “FOREVER THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS”
Romans 9:6-7 (KJV)
Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: [7] Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Galatians 3:7 (KJV)
KNOW YE THEREFORE THAT THEY WHICH ARE OF FAITH, the same are the children of Abraham.

Galatians 6:16 (KJV)
And AS MANY AS WALK ACCORDING TO THIS RULE, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon THE ISRAEL OF GOD.

The “Day of Atonement” IS one of The LORD God’s Holy “Sabbaths”…
Exodus 31:13 (NASB)
“But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘YOU SHALL SURELY OBSERVE MY SABBATHS; for THIS IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you……
……[16] ‘So the sons of ISRAEL SHALL OBSERVE THE SABBATH, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations AS A PERPETUAL COVENANT.’
[17] “IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE SONS OF ISRAEL FOREVER; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but ON THE SEVENTH DAY He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”

Christians, “as Dear Children”, WILL OBEY and “keep” (again, Paul’s words to the Gentile believers, “let us keep the feast”)-will keep this day holy to God “in sincerity and truth”… The obedience to these commandments of God are the very result (fruits) of their Christian LOVE OF GOD:
Ephes. 5:1 (KJV)
BE YE therefore followers of God, AS DEAR CHILDREN…

1 John 5:3
For THIS is the love of God, THAT WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS; and His commandments are not burdensome.”

The so-called “Christian Churches” that practice other, self-declared holy days (Christmas, Easter, All Hallows Eve)– these congregations have long ago agreed to “annul the commandments of God for the sake of their own ideas and “traditions” (you may refer to the reference materials section under “Council of Nicaea” for the proof of where this council began the common thinking of todays false-Christian churches):
Matthew 15:3 (NASB)
And He answered and said to them, “And WHY DO YOU YOURSELVES TRANSGRESS THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR TRADITION……
……[6]…’ And thus YOU INVALIDATED THE WORD OF GOD FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR TRADITION.
?

Christ Himself warned any church thinking to do these things:
Matthew 16:11-12 (NASB)
“How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But BEWARE OF THE LEAVEN of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Galatians 5:9 (NASB)
A LITTLE LEAVEN LEAVENS THE WHOLE lump of dough.

[12] Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, BUT OF THE TEACHING OF THE PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES.
Matthew 15:1-3 (KJV)
Then came to Jesus SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, which were OF JERUSALEM, saying, [2] Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. [3] But He answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

One last time (repeating is necessary to confute those who stand opposed)-
As for Obedience to The Commands for “The Holy Days of The LORD God”– the special “sanctified” days BY GOD, listed for us in Lev. 23– Paul HIMSELF speaks to The Church of Christ (“Christians”- those baptized in Christ) that was at Corinth… He spoke to them about “Passover” and “The Days of Unleavened Bread” (yet another of The LORD God’s Holy Days- HIS specially sanctified “Sabbaths”)- Paul said pointedly to this “gentile” (non-Jewish) Church of believers:
1 Cor. 5:8 (KJV)
Therefore LET US KEEP THE FEAST, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread OF SINCERITY AND TRUTH.

Paul does not stand opposed to The Law of God (Father of Jesus Christ)-Paul commanded the churches to KEEP The Law under Grace:
Romans 6:15 (KJV)
What then? SHALL WE SIN, BECAUSE WE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE? GOD FORBID.
1 John 3:4 (KJV)
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also The Law: FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.

And THIS applies as well for THIS sanctified “Day of Atonement“- The LORD God’s “Sabbath of Sabbaths“.

In Summary:
ANYONE that wishes to become God’s Son/Daughter (a ‘Christian’ by title) ARE TO “keep” the Day Atonement “IN Sincerity and in Truth”, since OBEDIENCE to God’s commandments IS what GOD HIMSELF DEFINES AS “Love of God”. And, THIS love includes the celebrating (“keeping”) of this “Day of Atonement” as one of our Father’s Holy “Sabbaths”.
