1 John 4:8 (NASB)
The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 John 4:16 (NASB)
And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
Romans 13:10 (KJV)
LOVE WORKETH NO ILL TO his neighbour: therefore LOVE IS the fulfilling of The Law.
LOVE DOES NO WRONG TO a neighbor; love therefore is the fulfillment of The Law.
Matthew 22:37-40 (KJV)
Jesus said unto him, THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. THIS IS THE FIRST AND GREAT COMMANDMENT.
And the second is like unto it, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR as thyself.
ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS hang all The Law and the prophets.
“…On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Romans 13:8-10 (KJV)
Owe no man any thing, but TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER: for HE THAT LOVETH ANOTHER HATH FULFILLED THE LAW.
 FOR THIS,
Thou shalt not commit adultery,
Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal,
Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Thou shalt not covet;
And if there be any other Commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR as thyself.
LOVE WORKETH NO ILL TO his neighbour: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.
The Love for your neighbor (remembering that God is a neighbor as well- two commandments for love to be showed; one for God, one for man), is taught by God’s Word to be THE KEEPING OF The Law of God toward HIM and toward our fellow man…
John sums up the definition as follows:
1 John 5:2-3 (KJV)
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
For THIS IS THE LOVE of God, THAT WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: and his commandments are not grievous.
God has kept the definition of LOVE very simple for us. We can easily understand what this is saying to us- if we do not harden our hearts against The Truth (The Word of God).
When we read what God defines as love, we are able to decide whether we do indeed demonstrate God’s idea of LOVE toward HIM, and toward our “neighbor”.
Examination also is very simple:
– Do we practice The Law of God in our life?
The Law commands for The Seventh Day Sabbath to be kept as part of our worship (our love) toward God.
As well as not committing idolatry (more than mere idol-worship).
As well as Not taking HIS NAME in vain (or in useless, empty, or wicked form)
– Do we keep The Ten Commandments of God toward our neighbor?
The Law commands that we honor (reverence, fear, and hold in high esteem) our parents.
The Law commands that we do not commit wicked deeds such as killing our neighbor, committing adultery against our neighbor, stealing from our neighbor, bearing false witness against our neighbor, nor covetting anything that belongs to our neighbor…
In order to practice these things, we must understand what each involves.
In order to understand what each involves we must examine The Word of God (The Law of God), and HEAR what it has to teach us.
Or we can choose to invent our own definition of love– which really, is nothing more than us lying to ourselves in the end; and in the end we will face The Truth.
Exodus 20:2-20 (KJV)
I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: in it thou shalt NOT DO ANY WORK, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY, AND HALLOWED IT.
HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt NOT KILL. Thou shalt NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. Thou shalt NOT STEAL. Thou shalt NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS against thy neighbour. Thou shalt NOT COVET thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, THAT YE SIN NOT.
“…that ye sin not”…
1 John 3:4 (NASB)
Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and SIN IS LAWLESSNESS.
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also The Law: for SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.
1 John 3:8 (NASB)
…the one who practices SIN is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
LOVE = Obedience to The Law
SIN = Disobedience to The Law
– Christ came to destroy SIN (disobedience to The Law):
Matthew 5:17-20 (KJV)
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, one jot or one tittle SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, till all be fulfilled. WHOSOEVER THEREFORE SHALL BREAK ONE OF THESE LEAST COMMANDMENTS, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: BUT WHOSOEVER SHALL DO AND TEACH THEM, THE SAME SHALL BE CALLED GREAT in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Acts 2:38 (KJV)
Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Romans 6:6 (KJV)
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, THAT THE BODY OF SIN MIGHT BE DESTROYED, THAT HENCEFORTH WE SHOULD NOT SERVE SIN.
Col. 2:10-12 (KJV)
And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power: In Whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, IN PUTTING OFF THE BODY OF THE SINS OF THE FLESH by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Again- God makes it all very simple to understand.
It is merely a matter of whether we will accept The Truth for what it teaches, or not.
Will we allow our own ideas and judgments to over-rule THE Truth– (“The Word of God”)?
Rather, let us accept The Word for what it is in truth:
1 Thes. 2:13 (KJV)
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, WHEN ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
